Messi Two Goals from Free-Kick Record

Published September 28, 2026 · Updated September 28, 2026 · NRK

Lionel Messi scored a stunning free-kick goal for Inter Miami, bringing him just two goals away from Marcelino Carioca's record for most free-kick goals in top-level football.

Messi's left-footed effort from a difficult angle brought the score to 1-1 against Columbus Crew, though Inter Miami eventually lost 1-2. The Argentine has now scored four free-kicks in seven matches, continuing his remarkable form from set pieces. Carioca's record of 78 free-kick goals between 1988-2009 remains within Messi's sights. fishroad-app.com

Despite Messi's goal-scoring prowess, Inter Miami continues to struggle, having won only one of their last ten MLS matches as defending champions.
