German Football Official Calls for World Cup Boycott

German football official Oke Göttlich has called for discussion about boycotting the World Cup due to US threats against Greenland, comparing the situation to historical Olympic boycotts.

As vice-president of the German Football Association (DFB) and president of St. Pauli, Göttlich questioned why countries boycotted the 1980 and 1984 Olympics but not the current World Cup situation. "The threat from the US is greater than then, so we must have this discussion," he stated.

The 50-year-old journalist argued that "a footballer's life doesn't weigh more than that of any person being attacked directly or indirectly by the host country." His comments come amid heightened tensions over US interest in Greenland. sport-ipl.my
