MotoGP Prioritizes Rider Mental Health

MotoGP is addressing rider mental health as a critical safety frontier following recent accidents that left competitors questioning their readiness to race.

The dangers of motorsport have been highlighted by recent accidents involving Alex Márquez and Johann Zarco at the Catalan GP. Several riders admitted their heads weren't in the right place after these incidents, creating significant risks when racing at over 300 km/h. In response, championship officials are implementing new safety measures including grid spacing changes, eliminating devices that lower bike height at starts, enhanced rear protection designs, and an automated alert system for riders.

As one paddock worker noted, while riders are often perceived as 'superheroes,' they are human beings facing extraordinary challenges. The sport is now recognizing that mental wellbeing is as crucial as physical safety in protecting competitors at the highest level. sport-ipl.my
