Spaun Wins Texas Open Ahead of Masters

JJ Spaun secured his first victory since last summer's US Open with a birdie-eagle finish at the Valero Texas Open, giving him momentum heading into the Masters.

JJ Spaun carded a 5-under 67 on Sunday to win the Valero Texas Open by one shot, his first title since capturing the US Open last summer. The 35-year-old Californian made crucial birdie on the 16th and eagle on the 17th holes to secure the victory at TPC San Antonio.

Spaun, who had struggled this season with no top 20 finishes in seven starts, expressed relief after dealing with the pressure of being a defending major champion. 'I put a lot of pressure on me to start the year,' he said. 'Going into the last few weeks trying to be freed up... it's been trying, but sticking to that mantra has really helped me.' Robert MacIntyre finished second alongside Matt Wallace and Michael Kim.
