Kade O’Rourke Seeks Exceptional Status in OHL

Texas native Kade O'Rourke has applied for exceptional status to enter the OHL a year early, potentially becoming the first pure-born American to do so.

Kade O'Rourke, a 15-year-old defenceman born in Texas, has officially applied for exceptional status with the Ontario Hockey League. Sportsnet reports that if granted, O'Rourke would become the first pure-born American player to receive the designation, a rare honor previously held only by dual citizens like Sean Day.

O'Rourke moved to Toronto at age 11 and has dominated the GTHL this season, leading the Toronto Jr. Canadiens to the OHL Cup final. He was named a tournament all-star and recorded 10 points during the event. The OHL Draft is scheduled for June 12th, meaning a decision on his eligibility must be made shortly.
