Nils Nielsen, who led Japan to their third Women's Asian Cup title in four tournaments, has resigned from his position with the national team. The 54-year-old Danish coach, who had been in the job since December 2024, guided Japan to a 1-0 victory over hosts Australia in the final on March 21.
During the tournament, Japan scored 29 goals while conceding just one. Nielsen's departure comes after his contract expired, with the Japan Football Association confirming his exit. Prior to his Japan role, Nielsen coached Denmark and Switzerland's women's teams and served as technical director at Manchester City's women's side.
