Benfica Winger Denies Racist Allegation, Claims Unjust Suspension

During the Champions League playoff between Benfica and Real Madrid, Vinicius Jr. alleged that Benfica youngster Gianluca Prestianni directed a racist slur at him, calling him a “monkey.” The claim was supported by Kylian Mbappé but no evidence was presented publicly. Prestianni was suspended and missed the second leg.

In an interview during the international break, Prestianni denied the accusation, saying he never used the slur and that the suspension was unjust. He explained that cultural differences may have led to misunderstandings and that the allegation hurt his family. Prestianni said he is now trying to move forward.
