NBA Approves Trail Blazers Sale to Dundon Group

The NBA Board of Governors has unanimously approved the sale of the Portland Trail Blazers to a group led by Tom Dundon for $4.25 billion.

The sale, which was finalized on March 30, 2026, transfers ownership from the Paul Allen Trust to Dundon's group. All proceeds from the transaction will be directed to charities, as required by the trust. Dundon, who also owns the Carolina Hurricanes, takes over a franchise that recently received state approval for major upgrades to the Moda Center.

The Trail Blazers are in a transitional phase with veterans like Jrue Holiday and next season's Damian Lillard, but the team is primarily built around younger stars such as Deni Avdija, Sharron Sharpe, and Scoot Henderson. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver praised Dundon as a 'go-getter' with 'enormous passion and spirit' who has a reputation for successful turnarounds in professional sports.
