NFL owners voted Tuesday to exempt Friday games from short-week restrictions, effectively treating them like Saturday, Sunday, and Monday matchups.

The NFL owners approved a significant change to scheduling rules on Tuesday. Under the new proposal, Friday games will no longer be treated as short-week matchups.

This adjustment provides the league with more flexibility, particularly for the 2025 Christmas schedule, which falls on a Friday. The rule change allows teams to be scheduled in standalone slots without limiting their opportunities for shorter turnarounds during the regular season.
