Jordan Cox embraces Test ‘clarity’ but with it comes unfamiliar role for England

It has been a complicated start to Jordan Cox’s England career. Now comes another unfamiliar role, starting on Wednesday in the three-match series against Pakistan – but Cox is grateful for the straightforward message provided by the England selector Marcus North. He will bat at first drop in the first two Tests in the absence of the injured Jacob Bethell. “Northy didn’t have to go: ‘You’re batting at three in these two Test matches’, but he did. This is 100% – unless I get injured,” Cox said. “Clarity’s one of the best things in sport.”

Want live women’s college volleyball coverage? FOX Sports is your new home. Headlined by the Nebraska-Texas top-2 matchup, FOX Sports will broadcast more women’s college volleyball than any network in history, starting this season. A total of 35 matches will be featured across FOX, FS1 and FS2, with a record eight matches on FOX, per Monday's announcement. FOX Sports' slate begins with the AVCA First Serve, a nonconference showdown. Louisville will take on Wisconsin on Saturday, August 22 at 4 p.m. ET on FOX. AVCA First Serve will continue with a doubleheader of Pitt-Xavier and Texas-Marquette on Monday, August 24 on FS2. Action will continue with the inaugural Players Era Volleyball Showcase presented by Players Era and MGM Resorts, similar to the college basketball nonconference tournament meant to raise NIL that burgeoned in 2025. Four matches across Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30 will be broadcast on FOX and FS1. Nebraska faces UNLV at 8 p.m. ET on that Saturday with Texas and TCU following at 10 p.m. ET. On Sunday, the top two teams — Nebraska and Texas — will face off on FOX. FOX Sports will also present the Big Ten/SEC Volleyball Challenge Week, which will run September 1-7. Once conference play begins, partner conferences Big Ten, Big 12 and Big East will have matchups displayed across FOX, FS1 and FS2. After watching the regular season unfold on FOX platforms, finish the Big Ten season where you started. FOX Sports will broadcast the 2026 Big Ten volleyball championship match live on Thanksgiving Eve (Wednesday, November 25 at 8 p.m. ET). The live Big Ten volleyball championship will be the first conference tournament championship aired on broadcast television. In addition to tuning into live matches across FOX’s platforms, tune into FOX social for match highlights and top moments throughout the season.
Giants to sign QB Jake Haener
The Giants will have a new quarterback at practice this week.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that they are signing Jake Haener to the active roster. Haener worked out for the team last month.
Haener was a Saints fourth-round pick in 2023 and spent three seasons with the team. He spent a short period of time with the Chiefs during the 2025 offseason.
Haener appeared in eight games during his time with New Orleans. He was 18-of-39 for 226 yards, a touchdown and an interception in that action.
Jaxson Dart, Jameis Winston, and Brandon Allen are the other quarterbacks on the Giants roster.
Mayfield to Play in Bucs' Second Preseason Game
Tampa Bay is taking a different approach with Mayfield this preseason after he didn't play at all in the opener against the Jets. The quarterback heading into the final year of his contract will get playing time along with other healthy starters against Kansas City.
Mayfield has been practicing at training camp while seeking a contract extension, but there hasn't been significant movement toward a new agreement with the Buccaneers.
ESPN closes in on identifying lineup for NFL Network games
NFL Network will broadcast seven regular-season games this year, following the sale of the operation to ESPN.
Via Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports, ESPN is closing in on naming the broadcast teams for the games.
Per the report, Dave Pasch is expected to work with Kurt Warner, with Bob Wischusen with Louis Riddick handling other games.
NFL Network will televise games on October 4 from London (Colts-Commanders), October 11 from London (Eagles-Jaguars), October 18 from London (Texans-Jaguars), October 25 from France (Steelers-Saints), and November 8 from Madrid (Bengals-Falcons).
That's five straight Sundays of early-morning European games.
NFLN also has a Saturday doubleheader on December 26, with the opponents to be determined.
The division of labor between Pasch/Warner and Wichusen/Riddick isn't know. Obviously, they'll each have a game on December 26.
