Dodgers Edge Diamondbacks Late to Remain Perfect

Dodgers Edge Diamondbacks Late to Remain Perfect

It was ring night at Dodger Stadium for the defending back-to-back World Series champions. And the Los Angeles Dodgers had plenty to celebrate, too, in a 5-4 win on Friday night over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The ring celebration was theatrical, with members of the 2025 World Series-winning Los Angeles Dodgers each receiving their hardware for the first time.

To make matters even more special and unforgettable, future first ballot Hall-of-Famer Clayton Kershaw, threw out the ceremonial first pitch and was later presented his ring by his former teammates.

There were a handful of players that repped Dodger Blue that were unable to receive World Series rings, but they turned out to be the ones who contributed the most.

Looking ahead to the game, the Dodgers were looking to remain perfect and secure the series win over the

Right-hander Emmet Sheehan took the mound for the Dodgers and was unable to complete four innings. His final line score read 3 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out six.

Manager Dave Roberts spoke on the difficult Spring that Sheehan said, nailing the troubles down to mechanical issues.

It looked as though that was the case Friday night with every time Sheehan completed an inning, his velocity seemed to dip down.

Arizona was able to work the right-hander into long counts.

For the second consecutive night, the Diamondbacks rang up their name first on the scoreboard.

After Gabriel Moreno and Pavin Smith led off the second inning reaching base, Alek Thomas doubled down the right-field line to give Arizona an early 1-0 lead.

Smith tested his luck trying to score from first, but outfielder Kyle Tucker showed his arm strength and gunned him out with ease to end the frame.

They got the run back the following inning as Ketel Marte ambushed Sheehan's 94 mph fastball in the middle of the zone and took it 391 feet over the right-field wall.

The Dodgers turned the tide in their bottom half of the third.

Alex Freeland made his season debut on Friday night starting at second base and made his impression felt on the offensive side, hitting his first home run of the season during his first at-bat.

Tucker and Shohei Ohtani followed that at-bat with a walk and Mookie Betts gave the Dodgers the lead with a three-run, opposite-field home run.

Los Angeles felt they were hitting a groove until the Dbacks punched back as Thomas hit his second RBI double to tie the game 4-4.

After that Betts three-run blast, 14 straight Dodgers hitters were retired.

It wasn't until Freeland led off the bottom of the eighth with his second extra-base hit of his debut. Ohtani moved him up to third and Tucker hit the go-ahead RBI single to give the Dodgers a 5-4 lead.

With the lead, newcomer Edwin Díaz was ready to make his Dodgers debut and delivered a clean ninth inning to secure his first save and the win.

The Dodgers look for the sweep on Saturday as Tyler Glasnow takes the bump for Los Angeles.

Less than five minutes to the off. Poor, cash-strapped F1 has not been able to update the season graphic to remove Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, or else is leaving them on out of solidarity.

Bayern Munich officially renews two injured talents

BARCELONA, SPAIN - SEPTEMBER 14: (BILD OUT) Younes Aitamer of FC Bayern Muenchen controls the ball during the UEFA Youth League match between FC Barcelona and Bayern Muenchen at Johan Cruyff Stadium on September 14, 2021 in Barcelona, Spain. Bayern Munich is usually an unforgiving, difficult environment that weeds out the players who cannot compete at the highest level of European football. If you cannot demonstrate your immense quality every week, you will likely not remain at the club for long. But it is also a club that takes care of its’ own.

This was proven yet again as Bayern renewed injured talents Younes Aitamer and Louis Richter until 2027, via the Bavarians’ official website. Both players’ contracts were set to expire in 2026, but they have suffered ACL injuries and are striving to return from them. Aitamer, who has been at the club for nearly 9 years now, has not played an official football match in nearly two years, while Richter, who has been at the club for around 12 years, was injured just a few weeks ago. Cutting them off now would have made it so very difficult for their careers to recover.

Instead, Bayern retains the duo, ensuring they get paid and continue to have easy access to modern medical equipment and recovery tools. Die Rekordmeister may be something of a shark tank, but it still takes care of its’ own.

Angel City remains undefeated after 2-1 victory over Houston Dash

LOS ANGELES – Riley Tiernan lifted Angel City Football Club to a 2-1 victory over the Houston Dash Friday night before 13,896 fans at BMO Stadium.

Tiernan’s game-winning goal extends ACFC’s winning streak to three, adding to the buzz that the club’s fifth season in the league may be its best yet. This is the first time Angel City has won three straight regular-season games, and it's the eighth team in the NWSL to do so.

After struggling in the first half, ACFC seemed to find its rhythm after half-time.

"One of the main things we noticed [in the second half] was our energy. That's one of the main things we always say, like 'control the controllables, and I think just wanting it and protecting our home field and not allowing someone to come in and take that away from us. We just made it a point to be more energetic and win first and second balls. Sveindís putting the ball in the net in the first minute really helped us to get some confidence and continue to play," said Tiernan on the shift during the second half.

In the 47th minute, Sveindís Jónsdóttir’s left-footed shot from outside the box to the top left corner brought the home side back to life. The goal follows her performance against Bay FC last week, where she was involved in all three of Angel City’s scores, netting two goals and one assist.

Less than three minutes later, Tiernan’s close-range right-footed shot put ACFC ahead with its second goal of the night. The goal brings Tiernan’s tally of regular-season game-winning scores to four- a club record.

"On the wing, it's adjusting to the 1v1 mentality, and it's really important to change your speed and get into those dangerous positions to get the ball into the box. Just going forward, trying to read the defender's body language and trying to see whether I can come inside or take it down the line to get the ball across", said Tiernan.

Despite the score-filled second half, the night started differently from the club’s past two matches. Remnants of the team’s transition woes from last season made an appearance through the first half, and fans filled the stadium with ‘boos’ and ‘ref you suck’ chants against referee calls.

In the tenth minute, Houston's Maggie Graham sent a header into the bottom left corner. Angel City struggled to break through Houston’s high press. Statistically, Houston overpowered the Los Angeles side. The visitors created two big chances, while ACFC failed to register a shot on target.

"I think there's not a lot of good that we did in the first half, so we're going to have to figure out what happened...we came into the second half knowing that we were only one-nil down, so we were lucky it wasn't bigger. We came out and scored two goals and won the game," said Jónsdóttir.

Angel City plays the Orlando Pride (1-1-1, 4 points) on April 3 at Inter&Co Stadium. After an international break, Angel City returns home for an April 26 match against the Portland Thorns.
