Chicago makes another pitch to be the site of a new Bears stadium

Chicago makes another pitch to be the site of a new Bears stadium

With the Illinois legislature ending its spring session without passing a bill that would lay the foundation for the Bears to build a new stadium at their in-state preference of Arlington Heights, Chicago sees an opening. And Chicago is trying to seize it.

Mayor Brandon Johnson has issued a statement that makes the case for the Bears to stay in Chicago. sport-tr.bet

"Chicago continues to offer the strongest opportunity to retain the Bears," Johnson said. "We have a publicly owned site the team has already vetted and approved, an existing sports authority with a dedicated revenue stream, and a framework for moving a deal forward. . . . I look forward to continuing to work with all stakeholders to pursue a deal that keeps the [Bears] while protecting property taxpayers."

The Bears repeatedly have said that their options are Arlington Heights and Hammond, Indiana. Unless and until an option materializes in Arlington Heights, and with the Indiana location seemingly nothing more than leverage to get a stadium in Illinois, maybe there's a path for the Bears to stay in Chicago.

Where they belong.

Andrew Berry on Myles Garrett: Nothing is final at this point, we're hopeful we close a deal soon

Is Myles Garrett really headed to the Rams?

At this point, everything indicates the answer to that question is a resounding yes.

But the trade is not complete quite yet.

Browns General Manager Andrew Berry spoke to assembled media at the organization's charity golf event on Monday, just after reports of the deal surfaced on social media.

"Real quick, obviously we wanted today to be about the Browns foundation and everything that we’re doing, the good work we’re doing there. Not naive that there’s a lot in the social media sphere, media sphere regarding Myles. Nothing is final at this point," Berry said, via Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan. "We are in discussions of a potential transaction including him. I’ll have a lot more to say about it once it is final — if it does become final. And I’ll discuss the details at that point. But we are in negotiations. We’re hopeful that we close something here in the next several hours. But nothing is final right yet.

"Like I said, I’ll have an update for you guys maybe as soon as tomorrow when there’s resolution."

Berry did not answer a couple of follow-up questions to his statement, noting that was all he had to say on the matter right now.

The fact that reports surfaced on social media is an indication that the deal is, as a practical matter, going to be executed. But it will not be completely official until compensation is agreed to and Garrett passes his physical.

There's no reason to believe Garrett would not pass a physical at this point.

At present, reporting indicates the Browns will trade Garrett to the Rams in exchange for edge rusher a 2027 first-round pick, edge rusher Jared Verse, and additional draft compensation.

Giants agree to sign Braxton Berrios to one-year deal

The Giants are looking at a few veteran receivers, but they already know one player at the position they want on their roster.

New York is signing Braxton Berrios to a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Berrios, 30, spent last season with the Texans. He appeared in four games, catching six passes for 37 yards. He also returned three kicks, averaging 27.0 yards, and three punts, averaging 8.3 yards.

Berrios would appear to slot in as a direct replacement for Gunner Olszewski, who suffered a torn Achilles during OTAs last week.

Berrios has appeared in 91 games with six starts since entering the league in 2018 as a sixth-round pick. He’s caught 140 passes for 1,360 yards with six TDs.

The Giants were also reportedly working out Odell Beckham Jr. and JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Jets Sign LB Wilson, WR Felton

The Jets also confirmed they have waived kicker Lenny Krieg and linebacker Kobe King. Wilson tried out for the Jets at their rookie minicamp and had 46 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and 2 interceptions at West Virginia last season.

Felton, who signed with the Giants after going undrafted in 2025, spent the entire season on injured reserve. He had 70 receptions for 1,027 yards and 10 touchdowns while at Virginia Tech.
