La Roja completely outplayed the defending champions, but needed a Ferran Torres goal in the 106th minute to become world champions for the second time.

The key to their success was a remarkable defence which conceded only once in the whole competition, against Belgium in the quarter-finals.

Brussels: The Belgian Football Association announced the departure of Rudi Garcia as head coach of the national team following Belgium's campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement issued today, the association said Garcia, who took charge in February 2025, will officially leave his position after Belgium was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

According to the statement, Garcia said that, following discussions with the Belgian Football Association, the two sides had decided not to continue what he described as an excellent journey that had lasted for the past 18 months.
